Ingredients
3 cups Supreme Semolina
1 tablespoon flour
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
Melted butter (enough to mix with semolina)
1 cup water (adjust as needed for dough)
For the filling:
Date paste
1 tablespoon melted butter
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon orange blossom water
Procedure:
Prepare the dough:
In a large bowl, combine the semolina, flour, sugar, and salt.
Add melted butter and mix thoroughly until each grain is coated.
Gradually add water and knead into a smooth dough.
Allow the dough to rest for a short while.
Prepare the filling:
In a separate bowl, mix the date paste, melted butter, cinnamon, and orange blossom water.
Shape the mixture into small sausage-like rolls.
Assemble the Makrouts:
Roll the rested dough into a sausage shape.
Insert the date filling inside the dough.
Shape into your preferred size (traditionally diamonds or logs).
Cook:
Fry in hot oil until golden brown and crisp.
Drain on paper towels and allow to cool slightly before serving.
